![]() Our Favourites on the Midlands Meander Make sure you spend time on the Midlands Meander. Turn off the N3 at Howick/Midmar Dam and follow the R103 past Lions River, Lidgetton and Balgown before you get to the small village of Nottingham Road. It’s not far from here to get to The Bend. Mel & Craig’s Favourite stops: 128 – Midmar Dam Such a great place to relax, put your feet up and have a picnic, ride your bicycle or take a walk. If you haven’t booked your accommodation, why not go camping! 409 & Others – Piggly Wiggly An array of shops, curio, art and restaurants. Take your time to walk around and get some fresh farm produce from the farm stall. 314 – Dargle valley pottery See their pottery and iron work. Also have a cup of coffee and German snacks in the coffee shoppe.
Get lost in the world of music. Have a look at the old, restored grand pianos and the not so restored ones in the shed. 416 – Gunthers Enjoy lunch in the garden of this German home. Have traditional German sausage and beer, while you overlook the peace and quiet of the midlands country side. Make sure you have cash for this stop! And get some German sausage to take home with you. 436 – Swisslands Cheese Buy some goat milk cheese. Feed the goats and watch the milking process. Have a picnic and enjoy a glass of wine. The Junction Another stop full of all sorts. Clothes, shoes, curios, chocolate feasts and a restaurant. This is a must stop. 501 – Country Company Café’ Bloom Country living to the tilt. Have coffee and look at the country life style shop. 505 – Marrakesh Cheese Farm Homemade cheese of various flavours. Have tour of all the cheese and hear how each one is made. After tasting each one you will come away with all the cheese you ever need. 507 – The Ugly Duckling This is a very interesting shop. You can take hours to browse hundreds of little things. A perfect place to get odds and ends and small gifts for friends. There is also very exotic furniture shop which you will enjoy. 512 – The Wine Cellar & Mouse Trap Deli Ahh, the best coffee in KZN! You have to get some ground coffee beans and smell all the different coffee blends. We love this place. If you enjoy your wine, you can get it here but we like the coffee mostly. There is a small coffee shop, which sells the best espresso filter coffee on the meander.
